The fourth quarter of 2021 rounded out a year of volatility and growth across the cryptocurrency sector and cemented the end of a year when pop culture became aware of NFTs. Governments responded to the rise of digital currency, Civic launches permissioned DeFi for retail and institutional investors.

As signals from regulators became stronger over the summer, we understood quickly from our clients and prospective clients that new permissioning tools for DeFi were needed to respond to these dynamic compliance requirements. We accommodated by building a DeFi product, called Civic Pass.

Chris Hart has joined the Civic Board of Directors and has succeeded me as Civic’s CEO. Chris’ background and track record as Civic’s long-serving COO make him particularly well qualified to assume the mantle of CEO, and I have every confidence that he is the right person to lead Civic into the future.

Civic Technologies, Black Fire Innovation, the hospitality technology hub created by Caesars Entertainment, Inc., and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), today announced that a vending machine using Age Verification by Civic will be housed in Black Fire to demonstrate the importance and utility of private identity verification to the top innovators who work in Black Fire’s concept-testing lab. The technology is based on Identity.com’s open source identity verification ecosystem.
